Policy demands

The European Union (EU) must use its powers for the benefit of future generations, to:

  1. End the unhealthy marketing of food between 6:00 and 23:00 on broadcast media – including television and radio;
  2. End the unhealthy marketing of food entirely on digital media – including social media and video sharing platforms;
  3. End the sponsorship by food brands of cross-border events – including sports and cultural (unless proven such sponsorship is not associated with health incompatible foods);
  4. End the use of marketing techniques appealing to children – including on food packages or using influencers and advergames.
  5. Ensure all children, including adolescents, are protected – meaning everyone up to the age of 18;
  6. Ensure that the definition of a health incompatible food is based on a strong and credible food profiling system – such as the WHO Europe nutrient profile.
